After making it through three costume changes, a public parade, a Korean tea ceremony, and one heartfelt serenade, Nari and Samuel missed their honeymoon flight to Mexico. But that’s what happens when your wedding is a piece of theater. The Brooklyn duo’s courtship started with a shared appreciation of Twin Peaks (they even announced their engagement on YouTube with a parody of the show). Then, inspired by Fellini’s 8 1/2, they asked guests to wear only black or white. “We wanted it to be very dramatic,” Nari explains. “Like a dream sequence.” The ceremony took place at Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park, where Nari wore a replica of her mother’s wedding dress and walked down the aisle to “Rhapsody in Blue,” holding a bouquet of raw cotton. When it was time to head to the reception at Smack Mellon, “we had one big parade,” says Samuel, “with the band leading everyone out to ‘Bicycle Built for Two.’ ” Dinner was a barbecue bonanza courtesy of Hill Country, after which the couple changed into traditional Korean garb for a formal tea ceremony, before Nari donned yet another ensemble: a glam cocktail dress she collaborated on with a designer from Bensoni, in which she serenaded her groom with an original song. Its title? “Wonderful We.”

" I’m just wrapping up my edits for Laura and Steve’s wedding (at 2:30am….) before heading upstate for the rest of the week. These guys were such a sweet couple. We went for a pancake breakfast at Bubby’s a couple weeks before the wedding to run over the details, and that’s when I really started to picture their plans for the day and get super stoked for the wedding. Joao joined me on this one, and he rocked it as usual.

Though I plan to write a more formal note, I wanted to thank you again for everything you did for myself and my friends/family on my wedding day!

You were such a calming presence to have around, and made everyone feel comfortable. It may sound like a small thing but it really went a LONG way to keeping the day from being stressful.

Beyond that, you were also charming and funny, and everyone adored you. I guess I should also mention the terrific job you did with everyone's hair as well, since that was beyond our expectations. But hey, don't let it go to your head ;).

what can I say about David? 2 years ago I walked in at a West Village salon with the hopes of finding a "decent hairstylist" that would cut my hair. The guy at the front desk immediately said, "he should cut your hair". I trusted him, but I got to be honest.... I was really scared.
I felt a little bit better when David introduced himself. He's got the best attitude and an amazing personality. I am very very meticulous and specific about my hair. Well, he immediately knew what I was going for. He gave me the most precise haircut Ive had in my life. I've had my hair cut by some of the best in the industry and I found the best a few blocks away. I found a great stylist and a friend. I've been lucky.

When my hair stylist, who I had been completely faithful to for fifteen years, suddenly passed away, I decided to take a leap of faith and visit Salon de Quartier, a salon a few blocks from where I live. My stylist there, David Lyle Jones, gave me a terrific cut! Exactly what I had asked for. Having straight, fine hair I am very picky about my cuts. I am so happy that I did not have to go through the trial and error of visting several stylists to find the right one for me. I am so pleased that I plan on being a regular customer going forward. Needless to say, I highly recommend David - no worries!! Just go.

Best Salon - Must see David!

Salon de Quartier is the best salon I've ever been to. From the moment you walk through the door everyone there makes sure you have the best experience - relaxed and stress free. It's very easy to book an appointment and to get to the Dumbo location from Manhattan. Only 20 - 25 minutes tops! David is the best! Do yourself a favor and get an appointment with him. I've been going to David for almost a year now and every time I see him I leave the salon feeling like a new person. David knows how to create a look (cut and color) to fit your personality and the season better than anyone I've ever been to. I sat in his chair and told him "I want to be dark and don't know about what cut" and David created a style and color that is just exceptional. I've never had so many compliments on a a haircut and style ever! David really cares about his clients and will do everything he can to make sure you're happy.

Pros: David, Value, Atmostphere, Staff

Amazing Salon and Service

This is the best salon ever! David is an awesome hairstylist and sincerely cares about what he does and does an amazing job of giving you exactly the right cut/color/style that is right for you. Everyone at this salon is friendly and the service is great and very well priced. The salon itself is super cute, located in Dumbo. David was actually my stylist at a different salon in the city and I've followed him now to his new salon in Dumbo b/c he's that great! I would strongly recommend, and have recommended, Salon De Quartier to everyone!

I am proud to announce my joining SALON DE QUARTIER in the new DUMBO area at 43 Washington Street in Brooklyn. View Larger Map The area is exciting and "fresh", The salon is just off the F (York Street stop) and just a little further is the A & C lines.

Why the change? Besides this being an exciting new opportunity that I just couldnt pass by, for many salons in manhattan, like Renew and Fiber, the economics of opening and keeping the doors open, is just becoming impossible.

SALON DE QUARTIER besides "doing it right" is also growing. They are that perfect match, that many of you know I have been looking for. I will be there Tuesday - Fridays 12-9 and Saturdays 10-6.

For those not able to check out the Salon in DUMBO: on Sundays I can be found at SALON DE QUARTIER on 1032 Second Avenue, Just a short walk from the E, V, 4, 5, & 6 lines at the 53rd and Lex stop.

What does that mean for you? Besides making myself available in Manhattan and Brooklyn, my prices will be more reasonable. I sure you all will agree, that this day and age is important.

Choices continues its profiles of men and women working in occupations atypical of their gender. In this issue, Choices interviewed David Lyle Jones, a hairdresser at Renew salon in New York City. Only 15 percent of all hairdressers are men, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. David has been a hair-care professional for nearly 20 years.

Choices: What led you to become a hairdresser?

David: After receiving a degree in political science and economics in college, I worked as a paralegal. When I realized that I did not want to become a lawyer, I decided that I wanted to work in an industry where I could travel, work anywhere, and choose the hours that I would work. The business of hairstyling appealed to me because I could transform my creativity into three-dimensional art.

Choices: How does someone become a hairdresser?

David: The requirements are different in every state, but for the most part, you need to go to beauty school to learn the basics of hairstyling. After you complete a certain amount of training--in New York, it is 1,000 hours--the state provides you with a cosmetology license and then you can practice hairstyling. However, many hairdressers choose to work as apprentices after receiving their licenses because the experience of working in a salon offers additional education and helps to increase confidence.

Choices: What is your job like?

David: I work five days a week and have anywhere from 5 to 10 appointments per day. I c

ut, color, relax, or perm the hair of my clients. Sometimes I am asked to create up-dos or style someone's hair for a special occasion.

Choices: What is the best part of what you do? David: Helping peop

le feel inwardly good about themselves. The best thing is to make someone feel more confident about who they are as a person. I look at myself as a problem solver; I try to turn the negative aspects of a client's hair into a positive quality. It is not about making people look like models, it's about making them look better and feel better.

Choices: Why is hairdressing a good job?

David: There are many opportunities within the field. You can work on the fashion side of the business, doing hair and makeup for runway shows, or you can work on the medical side with patients who suffer from hair loss either from illness or aging.

Choices: What would you say to young men to encourage them to become hairdressers?

David: Look beyond the assumptions people make about men working in fields dominated by women. I see hairstyling as an art and a science. In fact, more goes into hairdressing than most people recognize. You must be aware of many different things: the chemical side of the hair for coloring, the hair structure and how it grows for cutting, and the differences among hair products and their ingredients for healthy hair care. Overall, there are many opportunities for men--hairdressing is really what you make of it.

i had my hair hilighted by david lyle jones and it came out beautiful; everybody loved it. he was patient and didn't push me to cut my hair. he said i should let it grow another inch before shaping it. he used a baliage method for the hilights and it looks fresh and natural. the people who work there are so welcoming and do their best to make you comfortable. i highly recommend this place.

David Lyle Jones Without Question: The Very Best

I have had my hair cut and colored by David Lyle Jones several times now. I followed him to this great new location, in Chelsea on W19th which is so beautiful. His work is meticulous and detailed. He takes the time to do the job right. Part of his process is to fully explain what he is doing, and then does what he promises. I have never had my hair cut or colored so well - ever! And it lasts too..... He high-lighted my hair with a balliage/hair painting technique that is so natural, I get complements even to the point when Im going in to get them touched up.... unbelievable. Thank you again....

I walked into this salon at the spur-of-the-moment. I needed to look great for a evening-out but didn't want to have to deal with that UES attitude, so I took a chance and did something I rarely never do, walked into a salon and took who was available. I have to say that my first impressions were mixed. Tucked away in the back was a seemingly unpretentious tattooed individual who gave me one of the best experiences I have had in a long time. He talked to me about my hair, asked me my expectations and truly listened to my concerns. He made suggestions of different possibilities and truly made me feel comfortable. I have to say I have had a great many opportunities to have my hair done around the world and this stylist was up there with some of the best. He took his time and gave me one of the best haircuts and blow-dry's I have ever had. I'm glad I took the risk because hidden in the back was a diamond-in-the-rough. I highly recommend this stylist to anyone who might ask....

The atmosphere is amazing, the owner came and greeted me to make me feel welcome and everyone was just the best. This place is everything that one would want in a salon. I followed my stylist, David Lyle Jones, here. He has given me the best color and cuts that I have ever had. Most people claim to take their time but he does and produces the very best. I've seen him do other clients and everyone looks amazing. He has special signature cutting and baliage coloring techniques that makes him world class. Don't let his low key, comforting attitude fool you, because his cuts last and last. I have followed him from his previous salon and wouldn't let anyone else touch my hair.... I recommend him to those who truly care about their hair.... Thanks again David.
